When Lightning is not worth it

What goes wrong and the small set of recoverable errors

Across 17 deposit cycles the audit log captured three error categories. First, replace-by-fee (RBF) bumps: your transaction was broadcast at Slow priority, the mempool surged, and the transaction sat unconfirmed for over an hour. Most modern wallets (Sparrow, Electrum, Phoenix) let you increase the fee by republishing the transaction with a higher fee and the same input set. The casino sees the higher-fee replacement once mined and credits as normal.

Second, sending to the wrong format. We accidentally sent from a legacy-only Electrum wallet to a Taproot bc1p address at one brand. The send completed without issue because all modern miners and brands accept legacy senders writing to Taproot recipients. The fee was higher than necessary, but no recovery action was required. The only address-related failure we hit was a typo where one character was changed during manual copy; the wallet refused to broadcast because checksum validation caught it. This is the case for which addresses include a checksum: a typo cannot accidentally send to a valid address.

Third and rarest: sending BCH to a BTC address. Bitcoin Cash inherited the legacy 1-prefix format from BTC at the 2017 fork, so a BCH legacy address can superficially resemble a BTC address. We did not hit this in our testing because both Trust Wallet and Coinbase Wallet warn before sending, but it does happen in the wider population.
